This is the puppet journal for Jude Mortel, a student at hr_plottable, played by thickets.


Jude is a fifth year Hufflepuff from an unimportant pureblood family in Norfolk. He was born on November 5, 1989. His middle name is not Galahad, or Tristan, or Charlemagne; Jude doesn't have a middle name, because his parents couldn't be arsed to think one up. His father tentatively suggested (as he previously had done when Jude's sister, Margot, was born ten years earlier) that they give Mrs. Mortel's maiden name, Croft, as his middle name; but her response was a very firm "no", and so Jude is just Jude, just as Margot is just Margot.

Jude's father, Lewis Mortel, works for the advertising department of The Daily Prophet, which is indeed as dull an occupation as it sounds. His mother, Dorothy, is a clerk at Flourish & Blotts, a job with certain benefits for someone as bookish as Jude is. She originaly comes from Lancashire but Jude has never met his maternal grandparents, they both died before he was born and she has never told him how. His father and mother met when he came into Flourish & Blotts for a copy of "The Encyclopedia of Toadstools" and, while Dorothy was levitating a copy down from a high shelf for him, Lewis asked her if she'd fancy looking for some Boletus Elegans with him that Saturday. She lost her concentration and let the book fall on his head (it was quite a heavy book, and so the toadstool trip had to be delayed a week until Lewis's dizzy spells had gone away).

They raised their family in Lewis's hometown, King's Lynn. There are a number of other old wizarding families there, and he was homeschooled. So Jude did not associate much with Muggles growing up. He really doesn't know very much about them, and isn't terribly interested in them, either.

Jude is sort of boring, and has all the makings of a follower. His Hufflepuff loyalty in this case can be abused very easily. He has a mellow personality, but he can get fired up about something when he's sucked into it. He has never had a girlfriend and barely notices girls, except as potential audiences for his long winded speeches about how the Goblin Rebellions really were jolly interesting. He is afraid of anything with lots of hair, large teeth, and excessive drool, and stopped taking Care of Magical Creatures as soon as possible. He dislikes being dirty or sweating. He has a tendency to annoy his housemates by reading books during Quidditch matches.
